I am pretty drunk, although all I could think about on the cab ride home was how much I needed to pee.

We went out, my bosses got even drunker than me. It was amusing. The cab driver had taken me and E home from work before and remembered me, I was pretty impressed. He said cab drivers have good memories. That’s the first I’ve ever heard of this but now I believe it.

The nice thing about being drunk is that I don’t have to care that this entry is not going to sound very coherent.

Towards the end of the night I sat down with S and because I was drunk, was completely honest with him wrt how I feel about my job and about life in general. Sadly I don’t think I could ever be that honest with anyone if I wasn’t drunk, not because I’m trying to hide anything, but because there are things you just don’t think of saying when you’re sober. During the conversation I even remember thinking to myself, hey, I think he said something deeply meaningful like 2 minutes ago, but I have absolutely no recollection of what it was. Strangest thing. Anyway, no idea what I got out of that conversation, but I’m sure it had to do with doing what I like and being happy etc and all that good stuff.

I figured I should write this while I’m drunk because it would never sound the same the next day. Sorry if there’re any grammar/spelling errors, I’m too drunk to proofread. I have a meeting at 8.30 am tomorrow. I’m almost sure I’m going to wake up in the middle of the night and throw up. I’m an idiot when it comes to drinking, I’m just smart enough to get home without getting into any trouble, but then I puke. Gawd. I never learn.

Was reading about Mshim’s NY trip, and realised that I never got around to talking about mine. It happened over a month ago so everything’s a little hazy, but I think I can still provide a tiny bit of insight.

Haru Sushi - Pretty fancy sushi restaurant, conveniently located off Times Square. We got the Sushi & Sashimi for Two. It came with pretty good variety and surprisingly, was not horribly expensive. Only thing is the whole place felt a bit too white for my liking, so I somehow felt like I was paying more just to be in a nice restaurant. Frankly do not remember how the food actually tasted, which I guess meant it wasn’t particularly mindblowing.

Bangkok House - The website is pretty elaborate for a cheap restaurant. We got the lunch special which comes with appetizer, main course and drink/dessert. Definitely a good deal, but I was very unimpressed with my duck curry. The duck was really stringy. I need to stop getting duck at Thai places because I always end up disappointed, and this was probably the most disappointing Thai duck I’ve had. TJ was pretty happy with whatever he got; unfortunately I can no longer remember what that was.

Kunjip - Waited in a long long line to get into this one, and it was ~9pm when we went. We got the BBQ combo and some beef thing (I forget the specifics). It was good and authentic, loved the side dishes and the soft tofu soup, but in terms of the barbecue I think I enjoyed Park’s BBQ in LA better (TJ also agreed that the BBQ wasn’t the best, so you have a reliable Korean opinion on this). Regardless, I would highly recommend this place. Sorta pricey, but worth it!

Cafe Muse - Another Korean place, this one serving dessert. We had a huge Bingsoo with green tea ice cream (kind of like ice kachang but with slightly different stuff and a lot sweeter). Having never had Bingsoo anywhere else, I don’t know if this was any better or worse than your usual Korean dessert place, but I definitely enjoyed it. Plus I liked the decor a lot, I’d totally go there again just cos it felt like a nice happy place!

Was going to write about the musicals I saw too, but that’s going to have to wait. It’s 6.46pm on a Sunday and my last run just got done, so it’s probably time to get out of the office…

My latest thing is, I want to be an anime character. Like, not the child prodigy who’s saving the world type (plus apparently you’re only allowed to save the world if you’re <18, so I’m too old). I just want to be a peon character, one of those that doesn’t even have a speaking line and just gets beaten up in the background when the bad guys attack. I could even be one of the bad guy peon characters. The point is, it would be nice to have even marginal superpowers so I don’t have to keep looking over my shoulder when I walk home at night worrying that I might get mugged. I just need enough superpower to beat up a couple of street thugs trying to mug me. Is that too much to ask???

So I can’t be a mecha pilot, because mecha pilots can’t prevent themselves from getting mugged without their mechas around. Although, as a side issue, it would also be pretty cool to be a mecha pilot. In a recent discussion with TJ about my newfound passion for mecha anime, he acutely pointed out that there really is no point to mechas. Why do you need a robot holding a gun, when you can just mount the gun on a plane? Do they really need hands and feet? And if it takes years to train people to fly planes, how long is it going to take for people to learn how to pilot mechas? How can it possibly be a worthwhile investment? All valid questions.

What makes me sad is that, even if mechas do get invented at some point, first generation mechas are gonna be huge and clunky and completely uncool looking. It’ll take like 8 generations before they start looking nice. We’ll never see cool mechas in our lifetime!! Oh the tragedy.

On a happier note, I like the new Zhou Jie Lun album!! Current favourite tracks are Long Zhan Qi Shi and Shi Guang Ji. Go and get! I was prepared to be disappointed because I haven’t liked a lot of his recent stuff, but this one looks promising so far. Also, I found out today that one of my coworkers is actually really fobby and listens to lots of cheena music! I’m excited cos I’m getting desperate for new music, and she’s already made some recommendations. So, person reading this, you are also very welcomed to make some suggestions.

Nothing much new to report, but I felt obligated to write something because I like the new layout and I haven’t been using it nearly enough.

Currently I am:

studying for my next exam, semi-studiously. Actually I have been very studious about it, except on my study day (which was today), most of which I spent unconscious and in bed despite the heroic feat of getting up at 9.15am

trying to recover from being overworked and hoping the madness has ended

getting tired more quickly at the gym than I used to (or maybe getting lazier)

losing my inspiration to cook new dishes and settling for pasta instead (although I try to make up for this by putting in lots of vegetables in a creative manner!)

embarking on new anime without having finished any of the 30 or so that I’m halfway through

lamenting the end of peach season and the loss of my white peaches, which, I read on some sign in some grocery store somewhere, are the closest thing to ambrosia on earth (and you better believe it). Blueberries are also going out of season. You know what’s in season? Apples. Fricking apples. Who the heck needs apples to be in season?? There’re apples around all the effin time!! Apples are apples are apples, why do we need 20 different kinds crowding up the grocery store aisles?? Bleargh.

Meatspin also changed up the wordpress interface, so now typing is much more pleasant due to the nice new font. Maybe this will inspire me to write more about my uninspiring life! For now I am heading to Au Coquelet for a cup of green tea and to learn about multiemployer plans in critical funding status. I know, $1.90 and I sit there for 2 hours, it’s one of the many things that make me feel like a sinner.

On my flight back from New Jersey I ate half a Kit Kat bar and left my trash in the seat pocket. When the flight attendants came by collecting trash I considered (more than once) reaching into the seat pocket and disposing of my Kit Kat trash. But I didn’t, mostly because I hate trying to get the attention of the flight attendants and failing (most flight attendants are, ironically, not very attentive). I didn’t feel totally good about it, but I figured that when they clean out the plane for the next flight, they have to go through all the seat pockets anyway for security reasons.

So I get off the plane, and I’m trying to pass time at baggage claim while my luggage makes it to the carousel. I reach into my backpack for my fantasy novel of the moment, and find to my dismay that it is missing because - guess what? I’d left it in the seat pocket.

…

Talk about poetic justice. I’m never doing anything against my conscience ever again. =(

Got tired of the old purple flowers and Spanish comment page. I like the look of this one, all nice and clean. The only thing I had a problem with was that the font for the calendar was in size 12 Times New Roman, so I got rid of it. Hurray!

I am at work and am billing this blogging time to my most hated client again. Today the consultant I work with on this client (who’s the funniest guy ever cos he’s all meek and quiet but occasionally makes comments such as the following) said about the consultant from the other department who’s running this project, ‘He needs to take a tranquiliser’. And he couldn’t be more right. Seriously, the guy goes ape shit over every little thing that goes wrong. Dude, just chill ok, no one’s going to die or anything. How can you be 60 and act like that?? Jeez.

The people you work with on a project makes such a ridiculous amount of difference. The other night I stayed in the office till 1.30 with 3 other people working on another client, and came in at 8am the next day. We’ve frequently pulled things like this for this particular client, and I didn’t even mind it. After 11pm or so the delirium sets in and suddenly everything becomes a source of amusement, and it kinda ends up feeling like you’re just hanging out with your friends. I’m probably the only freak who felt this way about that late night, but it’s things like this that makes everything else feel worthwhile.

Today is our company’s yearly outing to a baseball game. I’ve skipped out on this the last 3 years because I don’t give a shit about baseball and I’m not interested in socialising with most people outside my department.

Last night we go out for drinks and these people keep asking me if I’m going to the ball game. And when I tell them no they give me the standard disappointed look and the obligatory why not. So I tell them the easiest reason I have - I don’t like baseball. Which is true. I really don’t f***ing like baseball. I guess I never tried to watch a game and I don’t know how it works, but I don’t really care to try. This is when people try to tell me, it’s not about baseball, it’s about hanging out and getting drunk.

At this point I’m just like … Leave me alone ok, if you REALLY want to know why I’m not going, it’s because my personal time is so bloody precious, I’m not going to waste it doing something I don’t find interesting, especially not when none of the people I enjoy spending time with is even going to be there. And yes, that means that I just don’t find you in particular worth carving out my personal time for.

It turns out that I have to work all this weekend anyway. I like how people sometimes try to make it sound like it’s my fault that I have to work on weekends. It’s not my fault ok, and you’re not doing anything to help, so f*** off and go watch your stupid baseball. Jeez.
